Unicorn Horns A baJillian Recipes-13(title)

Boy, has this been a week for unicorns!

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, Starbucks rolled out it’s limited edition Unicorn Frappuccino. It’s been all the rage lately. And when I say “rage,” I mean baristas are actually enraged over how difficult these Instagram-worthy drinks are to make along with the fact that EVERYone and their dog wants one.

As a non-Starbucks drinker (AKA, someone who doesn’t care to waste their money on overpriced and overrated brown water), I could care less about these drinks. Also, since when is mango the official flavor of unicorns??? Cotton candy or cake batter sounds more fitting to me. Starbucks totally missed the mark, in my opinion.

I, on the other hand, believe I hit the nail with these Unicorn Horns.

These little “horns” consist of crispy pretzels wrapped in a soft caramel spiral, coated in rich white chocolate, and bedazzled with cute and colorful sprinkles. So, basically the tastiest unicorn horns you will ever eat in your life.

Yes, I’m totally aware of how ridiculous that statement sounded.

What is it that makes unicorns so magical, anyway? Physically, the only difference between them and a horse is a horn on their head. For that reason, I don’t think it’s THAT naive or gullible of me to second guess whether they truly exist or not. If they had wings as well, then THAT would be totally different. Thus, I don’t think it would’ve taken me 29 years to realize that unicorns, in fact, do not exist.

Yes, I just outed myself as a unicorn believer.

And no, I’m not ashamed of it. I mean, if an overgrown oompa loompa can be president of the United States, a unicorn’s existence really isn’t that crazy…

There’s just something so addictive about that sweet and salty combo. Not to mention, the wonderful textures of the crunchy pretzel with the gooey, chewy caramel and the smooth white chocolate–bomb. These unicorn horns are basically chocolate-covered pretzels on steroids.

The legal kind…

How can something with only five ingredients be so scrumptious??

In addition to their oober doober cutey-patootiness, these unicorn horns are a cinch to make. See for yourself!

Crispy pretzel sticks wrapped in caramel, coated in white chocolate, and showered in sprinkles! Just 5 easy ingredients!
Prep Time 45 minutes
Refrigeration Time 5 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes
Course Dessert, Snack
Cuisine American
Servings 10 Unicorn Horns

Ingredients

  • 10 Pretzel rods
  • 30 Soft caramels*
  • 3 cups White chocolate chips divided
  • Food Coloring Pink, Blue, and Purple
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with wax paper; set aside.
  • Take three caramels, press them together to form one caramel, then roll and stretch into a rope. Wrap caramel rope around a pretzel rod, starting from the top and winding down to an inch or two from the bottom. Repeat with the remaining caramels and pretzel rods.
  • Place 2 cups of the white chocolate chips into a medium bowl. Divide the rest of the white chocolate chips among three smaller bowls--1/3 cup in each. Melt each bowl of chocolate individually until smooth. Dye the three smaller bowls of chocolate with desired food coloring.
  • Dip a caramel-wrapped pretzel rod into the plain white chocolate, using a spoon to help pour melted chocolate over the rod until the caramel spiral is completely covered. Make sure to keep the bottom 1 to 2 inches bare. Gently shake off excess chocolate and place onto prepared baking sheet.
  • Immediately drizzle colored chocolates over the coated pretzel rod, then finish with sprinkles. Repeat with the remaining pretzel rods. Refrigerate Unicorn Horns until chocolate is set, about 5 minutes.

Notes

*I used Lancaster vanilla and caramel soft cremes.

How many days in advance would you recommend making these? Also, would you store at room temperature in an air tight container or in the fridge? Thanks!

Hi Crystal! These are good the day of, or up to 4-5 days before. I’d recommend storing these in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Hope that helps 🙂
